If a course becomes filled, the system will not let you register for it. You may register for your second choice at that time. When a class fills we will put a handy waitlist email link on the Registration page which facilitates an email to us with the proper heading.

Staying on campus is not required. It sounds like you have found a great cost-effective way to participate in the institute.

I will pass along that there are evening activities and that a lot of networking and fun happens at meals. Commuter students (I was one in college) can participate in the socialization by planning to eat in the cafeteria (very reasonably priced payable at the door: $6 for lunch and $7 for dinner) and stay to hear the evening lectures. This includes the Sunday evening “kick-off” institute meeting at 6:30 P.M.

We also have several people who live in the area who usually attend.

Is staying on campus necessary to attend the session? My mother is less than 4 miles from campus and I would prefer to stay with her as my son will be there while I am in town.

I, too, enjoyed his course and developed a much greater understanding of German research which he delivered based on his years of expertise, tempered with humor! I am now using the syllabus and my notes with his hints (a “u” will always have an umlaut) to continue to “decode” the Gothic script and uncover new information about ancestors as I revisit my records. I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity! John will live on in the knowledge he imparted to his students in his role as a teacher.

His death is a great loss. He was an incredible speaker. He was not only knowledgeable, but entertaining as well. I am so grateful that I was a member.

Just over 3 weeks until GRIP begins! I’m really looking forward to five days of immersion in genealogy. It will be great to meet you all, especially the people who will be sharing the Intermediate Genealogy course with me. It’s terrific to have a genealogy institute that is (only) an eight hour drive for me.

Thank you for asking, Marcia. Each of the evening lectures is under the sponsorship of a genealogical society. As such we can make the lectures free and open to everyone. Make sure you stop by the table in the foyer to thank the sponsors in person. They may also have memberships or publications for sale. Although no registration is required, there is limited seating. We look forward to seeing you there.

Hi, Presently, I live in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. It is about an hour’s drive or so to Pittsburgh. La Roche will take a bit longer.
