GRIP 2013 begins in less than a month and preparations are on the way. If you know of anyone who is thinking about a course, now is the time to jump in. There are a couple of seats in the Intermediate course with Paula Stuart-Warren, CG, two seats in Writing Your Immigrant Story with John P. Colletta, Ph.D., and very few seats in Military Records: From Cradle to Grave with Craig R. Scott, CG. The other three courses have reached their maximum capacity and are taking waitlists. Just sent us an email.
For those who ordered polo shirts, they have been ordered, as have a couple of small memento gifts for all students. Dorm rooms assignments and meal counts need to go to the college next week.
Course coordinators and instructors are busy getting their syllabus material in. Each student will have all their course material in one notebook which they will receive at registration. By the nature of institutes students enjoy their chosen course all week and cannot attend other course lectures. As mentioned courses are sold out to capacity.
We are happy to say that Maia’s Books will be with us again. The wide variety of history, social history, and genealogy books and other things (heritage recipe books, coloring books, paper dolls, etc.) makes this an enjoyable way to spend extra time. The public is invited to visit the bookstore outside of the La Roche College cafeteria. (See Location tab for a map.)
On three evenings during the week, there will be lectures sponsored by the Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the North Hills Genealogists (of Pittsburgh) and the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. Please visit the Evening Activity tab for details on topics and times.
May you each have a happy and safe 4th of July holiday weekend. We look forward to having our students and faculty on campus July 21-26 for another great hands-on genealogical learning experience and to meet friend, both old and new.
