I see that some of you are contemplating coming to GRIP this year in your public New Year’s resolutions. Michael Hait’s blog states that he would like to take the Advanced Research Methodology course (see http://michaelhait.wordpress.com/) and Tina Lyons is weighing her options for summer activities (see http://genwishlist.blogspot.com).
Some of you are writing to us with questions. I would like to share those with you (and the answers).
1.) Is La Roche College wheelchair-accessible? Yes, both the dorm and classroom buildings have elevators. There are no steps from the parking lot to either building and the classrooms are on the main floor.
2.) Will the courses be offered in electronic format afterward? No, the courses will not be recorded. The courses are like workshops which include discussion and hands-on exercises as well as lectures.
3.) How far is it to the airport? La Roche College is about 35 to 45 minutes to Greater Pittsburgh Airport (PIT), depending on traffic. We will place more information about ground transportation on the website. Look for it there.
4.) Are there any pre-requisites for the Advanced Research Methodology course? No, not at this time. However you should be an experienced researcher. This is the same course that Tom Jones teaches at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) each January.
For those with shiny new 2012 calendars, you can mark Tuesday, February 7, as the opening of GRIP registration. You will reserve your selected course online and payment by check will be expected within 30 days in order to secure your classroom seat. More information will be forthcoming soon.
Wishing you many great discoveries and brick walls crumbled in the New Year. — Elissa and Debbie
