Six weeks from today, GRIP courses will begin. For those attending, you can pick up your registration materials on Sunday, July 22 from 3 pm to 5 pm or on Monday morning beginning at 7:30 am. Classes begin at 8:30 am. The GRIP co-directors are keeping busy with preparing for GRIP. There are just a couple of seats left in the Internet course, “Beneath the Home Page” with Joshua Taylor. The German Research course with John Humphrey has one seat left. If you have any questions feel free to email us at info@GRIPitt.org.
Another event that the co-directors are involved with is the Ohio Genealogy Society Summer Workshop. Running in Mansfield, Ohio, at the OGS Library from Monday, June 18 through Friday, June 22, there is still room in the classes being offered there. You may come for a day or stay for the week. The instructors include Rev. David McDonald, CG, on religious records, New England migration case study, and the Old Northwest Territory; Craig Scott, CG, on military records; Dr. Debbie Abbott on organization and other topics; Kimberly Powell on Internet topics; Peggy Lauritzen, AG, on land platting; Bob Keener on census records; Elissa Scalise Powell on Word for Genealogists and Writing as You Go. The line-up looks terrific. You can see more details at www.OGS.org under Events and then Workshops. But be aware that the schedule posted there is tentative. The topics and speakers are correct but the times (or days) may have shifted.
Our GRIP instructors are busy in many venues. Check out the FGS conference program at www.FGS.org to be held August 29 through Sept. 1 in Birmingham, Alabama. Thomas Jones, Ph.D., CG, CGL, Paula Stuart-Warren, CG, D. Joshua Taylor, MA, MLS, and Elissa Scalise Powell, CG, CGL will all be presenting lectures. If you can’t make it to the conference look for the audio CDs of the sessions. Many are also available for past conferences at Jamb-Inc.com under the Genealogy menu tab.
